Cold and Rainy Walks: A Practical Dog-Walking Checklist
A practical checklist for wet and cold dog walks, from visibility to drying off afterwards.
Rain and cold do not automatically mean skipping walks, but comfort and visibility deserve more attention. Adjust the duration and route to your dog's age, coat, size and tolerance.
Before the walk
Check the lead, harness or collar fit and consider visibility in dark conditions. Bring water on longer outings even when the weather is cool.
After the walk
Dry paws and coat, remove mud and check between toes for grit or irritation. Let wet walking equipment dry fully before the next use.
If your dog has mobility, respiratory or other health concerns, ask your veterinarian about suitable activity in cold weather.
