A carrier is easier to use when your cat sees it as part of everyday life. Leave it open in a quiet room with familiar bedding inside rather than storing it out of sight until travel day.
Build positive familiarity
Let your cat investigate the carrier voluntarily. Place a familiar blanket, toy or occasional treat inside and avoid forcing the door closed during early practice.
Practise in small steps
Once your cat is comfortable entering, briefly close and reopen the door. Later, practise lifting the carrier for a few seconds before gradually increasing movement.
Choose a carrier that is secure, ventilated and appropriately sized. For severe travel anxiety or medical concerns, speak with a veterinarian.
